William Priestnall of Harrogate, Yorkshire

The purpose of the transcript is to give an accurate indication as to who the beneficiaries are, and if available an insight to the lifestyle of the deceased, by way of any peculiar comments in the will, and of course inventories of personal effects where available.


Will of William Priestnall formerly of Stockport, late of Harrogate – Died 5th February 1888

Administration

Be it known that at the date hereunder written, the last Will and Testament of William Priestnall formerly of Stockport in the County of Chester but late of Harrogate in the County of York, Retired Draper, deceased who died on the 5th day of February 1888 at Harrogate aforesaid was proved and registered in the Principal Registry of the Probate Division of Her Majesty’s High Court of Justice, and that administration of the personal estate of the said  deceased was granted by the aforesaid court to Edward Watkinson of West Place, Huddersfield in the County of York, Bank Manager, John Watkinson of Fairfield, Huddersfield, aforesaid, Cashier and David Johnston of 74 West Parade, Huddersfield, aforesaid, Woollen Merchant, the Executors named in the Will they having been first sworn well and faithfully to administer the same.

Will

This is the last Will and Testament of me William Priestnall of Stockport in the County of Chester, Draper. I hereby revoke all former Wills and Testamentary dispositions made by me.
I direct the payment of all my just debts, funeral and testamentary expenses as soon as conveniently maybe after my decease.
I give the legacy or sum of five hundred pounds and my gold watch to my son John Charles Priestnall (my son William Watkinson Priestnall having already received his share of my estate in his lifetime).
I give to my daughter Mary Ellen Priestnall (to whom I have already given her mother’s watch) the legacy or sum of fifty pounds.
I give to my daughter Sarah Anne Edminson, the wife of Leonard Herbert Edminson, the sum of fifty pounds and my scrap book.
I give to my daughter Martha Elizabeth Priestnall the legacy or sum of fifty pounds and my writing desk with its contents.
I give the legacy or sum of twenty pounds to each of my Executors and Trustees hereinafter named who shall accept the office of Trustee and Executor of this my Will as an acknowledgement of the trouble they will incur in so acting.
I give, devise and bequeath all the real and leasehold estates (if any) and all the real, residue and remainder of the personal estate to which I shall be entitled at my decease or over which I may have the power of appointment or disposition including the proceeds of any policy or policies of insurance on my life unto my brother in law Edwards Watkinson of Huddersfield in the County of York, Manager of the Halifax and Huddersfield Bank, John Watkinson of Huddersfield aforesaid, Cashier and David Johnston of Huddersfield aforesaid, Woollen Merchant (whom I appoint as Trustees and Executors of this my Will) and the survivors and survivor of them and the heirs, executors, administrators and assigns of such survivor respectively according to the nature and tenure thereof (hereinafter collectively called “my trustees”.). Upon trust to sell and convert into money my said residuary, real and personal estate and to stand possessed of the clear proceeds thereof and of any rents and income received there from (after payment of the expenses of such sale and sales and all other expenses incidental to the trusts of this my Will) for the absolute use of my said three daughters Mary Ellen Priestnall, Sarah Anne Edminson and Martha Elizabeth Priestnall and the issue attaining the age of twenty one years of any of my said three daughters who shall die in my lifetime in equal shares but the issue of any deceased daughter or daughters to take equally amongst themselves, if more than one the share or shares only which their mother or mothers would have taken if living at my decease and I direct that my real estate (if any) shall be considered for the purposes of enjoyment and transmission under the trust herein before declared as converted into personal estate after my death.

Signed by the said Testator William Priestnall as and for his last Will and Testament in the presence of us present at the same time who at his request in his sight and presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names as attesting witnesses.
